Brendan Patrick Hogan
Pilgrims Musa and Sheri in the New World, Prisoner of 2nd Avenue, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and Yankee Tavern, ACT Theatre
From the nomination panel: “What continually impresses me about Hogan’s work in plays such as this is his ability to create lush, richly layered and very realistic soundscapes that can play underneath the action and bolster it, rather than distracting from it. In fact, half the time one doesn’t notice that there’s still sound playing until partway into the scene, and that’s the mark of excellent soundscapes. The city soundscape of this play rises and falls naturally, as well as with the opening and closing of the door, and Hogan adds to the naturalism with other elements–planes, radios, music–that add to the atmosphere of the story. Engrossing.” |
